Term planning
Sequence before you generate.
A scheme of work should show progression across the term, not a list of disconnected topics. Prepare the curriculum, class, subject, term length, teaching weeks, interruptions, prior knowledge and assessment dates. Identify topics that depend on earlier concepts and leave realistic space for revision.
Review the generated sequence for curriculum coverage, cognitive progression, time allocation, local examples, practical work and assessment load. Confirm that public holidays, examinations and school events have not created impossible weeks. Department leaders should agree the final version before teachers use it.
Use the scheme as a planning framework. Each lesson still needs its own objectives, activities, resources and evaluation. Copying weekly headings into a lesson note does not create a teachable lesson.
