Comments should connect evidence, progress and a useful next step.
Strong progress: “Amina explains key ideas clearly and applies them accurately in independent tasks. She should now show more of her working so that her reasoning is easy to follow.”
Improving consistency: “David contributes thoughtful answers during discussion and understands the main concepts. Completing practice tasks more consistently will help him retain methods and work with greater confidence.”
Support needed: “Chidera can identify the correct operation when guided but still needs support to begin multi-step questions independently. Short daily practice with worked examples will strengthen this skill.”
Behaviour and participation: “Fatima works respectfully with classmates and responds well to feedback. She will benefit from volunteering answers more often, even when she is not fully certain.”
Review before publishing
- Use the learner's correct name and pronouns.
- Base the statement on observed work, not a personality label.
- Describe one clear strength or area of progress.
- Give a specific next step that the learner or family can understand.
- Remove sensitive diagnoses, comparisons with other learners and guarantees.
- Check tone, spelling, school policy and consistency with recorded results.
Generated comments are drafts. The teacher who knows the learner must confirm that each statement is fair, accurate and appropriate for the report.
